Aggie Transfer Camp 2002

Hot. Muggy. Middle of August.
In east Texas, Camp Pineywoods.
Namesakes picked, counselors ready,
to welcome new students to the ‘hood.

Bus ride was long, but fun
plenty of games were played.
energy levels were high, excitement was palpable,
we were going to have a great four days!

Justin and I partnered up,
couldn’t think of a skit to do–
Our DG was ‘Show me the Money’
(DG = Discussion Group)

We reenacted Jerry Maguire
Justin yelled super loud
we met our campers, and started
sharing what Aggies were all about.

We taught them a lot,
but we had a lot of fun planned too,
Mixers, contest, skits,
songs, bonfire, time in the pool.

Then my favorite skit happened.
I almost rolled on the floor in laughter.
Tim and Kurt played Hansel and Derek
in the walk-off from Zoolander.

We were young and carefree,
the real world was still a few years away
and since school was still out for the summer
we had no worries those four days!

I could have probably used more sleep,
and a lot less of the Blue Stuff..
whose copious amounts of sugar,
made getting that sleep a little rough.

I still keep in touch with the folks
That I got to know during that year
And the time I spent at T-camp
I would re-live in a heartbeat. Sigh. Tear.

Note:  I would re-live my T-camp experience as a camper (Go Camp Scott!) or as a Howdy Camp Counselor (I wipe my own Sasse!) in a heartbeat too.  I love all of the fond memories I have from being involved!  Oh, and GIG ‘EM AGS! :)

It’s Thursday again, and that means only one thing: time for Writer’s Workshop at Mama Kat’s!  Click on the picture to join in or read the other entries.

I never went to a summer camp. Ever. The closest I ever got was a weekend camping trip for junior Girl Scouts (I think we were called Brownies.)I hear such wonderful stories from people who’ve gone and developed lifetime friendships. This was such a nice post to read, and I can see why you’d want to relive it!

ahhh summer camp. I do miss those times. They were such great times. I would hope my daughter’s get to experience them, that’s if I could let them be away from me for a week.

PS…I wish I could write a great poem as yourself!
