Our Saturday excursion to the Art Barn Studio

Great to see you again!! Y'all don't forget to fan me on Facebook, and subscribe to my Examiner articles!

Truly, I hope y’all have something like this in your neck of the woods.  The Art Barn Studio was so fun!  I decided to let my girls paint something…something we could use at home.   I am not like Kate Gosselin–they got to pick their own colors, matching our home be darned.  This was truly an expression of them.

You can’t miss this building.  It is painted like a cow.  Don’t believe me?

Outside the Art Barn Studio

Once inside, I realized (too late) that they were very busy and very understaffed.  However, the girl that helped us out was wonderful.  Ace kept wandering off trying to eat the little items in a bucket for decoration, and when she asked me if I needed anything, I said, “Babysitting?” She had a sense of humor, too.  She said, “Maybe if we weren’t so busy?”  And that was the truth.  The place was full!  The girls picked out their pieces of pottery to paint–DQ settled on a vase with a butterfly, and Cub settled on a heart magnet. Then they just had to wait to start painting!

DQ was so excited!

Their prices were reasonable; the huge vase was less than $30, and the heart magnet was around $5.  They both got to pick the colors they wanted to paint with.  DQ settled on a palette of soft blues and purples.  Beautiful!

I didn’t get a picture of Cub’s creation.  She went with a gorgeous color palette with red, blue, green…and then ended up using black to cover everything up.  When we get the items back I’ll take pictures to show you.  It should be about a week.  Here is Cub in action.

Ace didn’t really cooperate.  He constantly wandered off, climbed up onto (and subsequently fell off) chairs, tried to eat everything in sight (including paint!) …and was generally a great, big toot.  I may or may not have sent a text to my husband telling him he was dead to me for not coming to help.  I may or may not still hold a grudge.  I may or may not have partaken in a glass of wine to calm my nerves upon returning home.

I tried to get a good picture of Ace, but even that eluded me today.  Here is the best one of the bunch, and he’s not even looking.  At least in this one he isn’t eating markers!

Hope y’all had a great weekend!

How did you spend your Saturday afternoon?
