Here’s to you, my sweet DQ, on your birthday

Great to see you again!! Y'all don't forget to fan me on Facebook, and subscribe to my Examiner articles!

Tonight, as the rain pelts down on our roof and our children are all tucked in asleep in (our) bed, I can’t help but lose myself in thought.  Today marked six years since I became a mom for the first time to a living, breathing, squirmy, healthy, sweet and cuddly baby girl.

It wasn’t easy.  I was beaten and bedraggled, drugged and groggy, swollen and sore.  I didn’t get to see my baby for the first five hours after she was born.  I got one look then she was whisked away to the nursery for a bath.  I slept, and when I woke up I vaguely noticed something was amiss.  Then I remembered: I had a baby!

I didn’t know what to do.  I read everything I could and listened to the advice of my Mom, and tried to do the best I could.  I know I made a lot of mistakes.  I know I still make a lot of mistakes.

But if she only knew how much she meant to me, I think that would make up for it all.  I hope she does know, even though she doesn’t show it.  I hope she knows that even when she is not with me, she is in my heart and in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope she knows she always will be with me, no matter what separates us.  I hope she knows that I am in her heart, too; I have claimed my place and I’m never relinquishing it.

I hope she sees herself as I see her.  As a lovely, charming, spunky, precious, headstrong girl.  As a fighter.  As a true innocent, who always sees the best in others.  As a helper, a little momma bear of a sister, a protector.

I hope she grows up to be a lovely, charming, spunky, precious, headstrong woman ready to take on the world.

I hope she doesn’t grow up too fast.

I love you, my little DQ.  Happy Birthday!

Love,

Mom :)

Thank you! …now where did I put that memory book? Just kidding.

And on a totally unrelated note, I love your avatar.

Nothing like crying first thing in the morning. That was so beautiful. She will cherish this for the rest of her life. I know that little girl and she is remarkable. She is so smart and has a unique personality. Why? Because she had a Mother who loved and cared for her even though she didn’t know what to do sometimes. All Mothers can relate to that. I love my little granddaughter very much, who is really a carbon copy of her mother. So, I’m also proud of my daughter whom her dad and I have always told her how very special she was in our lives. We love you. Mom

    Thank you!

That was totally the kit you buy at Target! HAHA. And it must have been a fluke, because this year we gave up halfway through and tried to eat it.

Recommendation: do NOT eat that gingerbread. YUCK!!
