Helpful homemaking resources
Great to see you again!! Y'all don't forget to fan me on Facebook, and subscribe to my Examiner articles!
This past week, I have been re-evaluating my household routine. I’ll be the first to admit that I am a miserable failure as a housewife. My husband is lucky to come home to a de-cluttered living room, much less a meal on the table in a reasonably clean kitchen!
If you recall, as one of my New Year’s Resolutions, I promised myself I would make and keep a household cleaning schedule. Have I done it so far?
…no.
I know! I know! I am a no-good, promise-breaking fool. What’s worse is, I am breaking a promise I made to myself! Atrocious!
What I have done, though, is compile a list of resources I am using to help me develop this schedule. Order. Routine. If you are in need of some inspiration and/or motivation, these are wonderful places to start.
Spiritual/Biblical/Devotional Resources:
- The Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge
- Graced and Gifted: Biblical Wisdom for Homemakers Heart by Kimberly Hahn. (Available on Amazon)
- A Mother’s Rule of Life by Holly Pierlot. (You can order her book off of her website, and also on Amazon.)
Note: I have not read any of these yet; they were recommended to me.
- Queen of the Castle by Lynn Bowen Walker (I got my copy from Amazon) I have read this one, and I love it! It is set up with 52 short chapters, one per week, taking you through a year of homemaking. Plenty of inspiration, tips, quotes, prayers and other tidbits.
Secular “programs”
- FlyLady
- Sandra Felton’s Messies Anonymous.
Both of these send an email a day (FlyLady sends more) with tips, tricks, Baby Steps, and plenty of inspiration.
Blogland Resources
- Simple Mom
- Brocante Home (blogger who is inspired by vintage housekeeping…)
- Her Southern Charm (her posts on creating a schedule were great!)
- Inspired to Action
- Home Sanctuary (recently found this one–LOVE that she makes cleaning/organizing into a contest with points! And a monthly winner! Is that great or what?)
- Unclutterer
- Organized Everyday
- I’m an Organizing Junkie
This barely scratches the surface of resources. As I find more, I’ll add them here. Hopefully these will inspire you to do something special for your home and your family today!
