Great to see you again!! Y’all don’t forget to fan me on Facebook, and subscribe to my Examiner articles!
I found a new blog. A very yummy blog.
A Southern food blog!
Ladies (and gentlemen) please, please visit Deep South Dish at your earliest possible convenience.
She reviews cookbooks and cooking products, and has a variety of recipes, some inherently Southern, many Cajun, and some not-so-Southern. Some are low fat, many are not (but that doesn’t mean you can’t make them low-fat!)
Today, in honor of Mardi Gras (otherwise known as Fat Tuesday) she …

What better excuses for parties than the Super Bowl, Mardi Gras, and Valentine’s Day? They are all coming up within a few weeks. It is an exciting time of year.
Since the Super Bowl is first, I want to start with talking about tailgating and game day party ideas. A great party is many things, but a casual football party is all about the food. I have been to fun football-watching parties where the only decor was a futon, but when you add in a big screen viewing, some great food, …

Last week, I attempted to make Pioneer Woman’s Simple, Perfect Enchiladas. One reason was that I really wanted to go to a Mexican food restaurant, but my husband is sick, so I figured I would bring the “Mexican food restaurant” to our dinner table. Another reason I decided to try a PW recipe is that I made a promise here to make all of PW’s recipes from her cookbook within one year.
So, I read the recipe. I bought the ingredients I didn’t have. I thought about a game …

Let it be known, that I love college football. I haven’t written about said love previously, and that is a crying shame, because college ball is one of the most fascinating, emotional, and wonderful things on TV nowadays. It is even better in person, but as it would cost a small fortune to cart my entire family to a game, I settle for watching on our big screen.
As an Aggie, I have no vested interest in the game on Thursday, other than ROLL TIDE! Yes, people, that means I …

I mean, a person’s gotta eat, right? So why not enjoy it?
Ok, maybe I enjoy it a little too much. Especially this time of year.
That is why I am following Woman’s World’s recommendation and starting a vinegar diet.
Relax. I am not eating only vinegar! YUCK!
I am either: making a salad dressed in 1 tbsp vinegar to eat before lunch and dinner, or drinking 1 cup water mixed with 1 tbsp vinegar before lunch and dinner. And I am using cider vinegar because it doesn’t taste quite as vinegar-y as white …

I want to start off by saying, Mickey the Pickle Guy has no idea who I am and I have not received compensation in any way, shape or form for what I am about to write.
Almost three years ago I married my husband. Then we went to Thanksgiving dinner at his parents’ house in Mississippi a year and a half later (I am skipping the irrelevant parts, like having a baby and moving). His mom had a jar of these at the Thanksgiving table.
I, being a pickle lover, …

I wanted to try a new recipe; Pioneer Woman’s Coq Au Vin. It calls for a cut up fryer chicken.
My husband couldn’t find a cut up fryer chicken so he bought a whole chicken at the store. The butcher told him it was the same thing.
I know it is technically the same thing, except I have to cut it up.
Fine, I thought, I’ll look it up online. Because you know Google is the best way to learn how to cut up a chicken. Ha.
I dig the bird …

I am slowly, but surely, teaching myself how to cook. I have mastered a few dishes, mostly simple things like casseroles, tacos, and spaghetti. I started reading Julia Child’s memoirs of France, and now I want to try French cooking. Go figure.
Well, today, I made Buffalo wings. Not exactly French, but danged delicious nonetheless.
It was the second time in my life that I fried something. I know, as much as I love fried food I couldn’t believe it either. One more frying experience and …

So…yesterday I was making a brownie pie recipe I saw on the 50′s Housewife blog. The girls were excited because we had ice cream to go with it.
My family (and friends) know that I am not exactly a planner. So they will not be surprised that I saw the recipe at 4 pm and decided to make it after dinner. And they will also not be surprised that I forgot to leave the butter out to soften. So I stick it in the microwave for a few seconds to get …

I am making tea today, and since I only recently acquired this all-important skill, I thought I would share it with you (in case you, too, are a Southerner who loves sweet tea and can’t live without it and is reduced to buying the Red Diamond tea at Wal-Mart to satisfy your cravings.)
If you’re me…first you need to clean up the sink because pouring the brewed tea into the pitcher can get a little messy.
Then I get out my two 1-gallon jugs and pour 1 cup of sugar in each …
